Journal Guide

Journals? What journals?

You have a “journal” due at midnight the night before each class. The prompts for writing your journals are found on the Schedules & Assignments page. The prompts will ask you to reflect on or explain various aspects of the assigned readings, databases, or other materials.

Where do I submit my journals?

On the Canvas site for this course.

How long should my journal be?

It depends. Some prompts will require longer answers than others. In general, your total journal should be between 150 and 500 words.

Do I need to formally cite my sources?

No.

How are journals graded?

Journals are graded on a scale of 1 to 10. A score of “1” is very bad. A score of “10” is very good.

How do I get a 10 on my journal?

Try to really engage with the assigned readings and/or databases. I’m looking for thoughtfulness, not necessarily spectacular writing.

Can I submit my journal late?

In extenuating circumstances only.

Can I make up for not doing a journal?

Yes. One extra credit assignment = one journal. Maximum extra credit assignments = 3.
